DESIGN I

Location: London - UK
Year: 2019
Type of Collaboration: Design, Computational Design, Robotic Printing
Type of Project: Experimental, Computational Design, Material Testing
Design 1 seminar builds on the techniques and methods explored in Design & Technology
and Natural Systems & Biomimetics to develop proposals with advanced computational
design, analysis, and fabrication strategies.
The purpose of Design 1 is to design and develop an outdoor structure that fits in a bounding
box of 4m. x 2m. x 3m. This structure comes from the agent based model developed on the previous seminar. The structure should offer a clear internal space for occupation and should be selfstanding. During the design phase, experiments on deforming surfaces with agents were conducted in order to find and optimal surface. This surface were then subvided into panels and analyzed according to defformation coefficients and joinery. Studies on how to 3D print then and the elasticity of clay were conducted as well in order to understand material resistance and robotic paths of the panels.
